Bon, who is this dude Wim Bien, and why should I care?
Granted, very good questions. And since you insist:
I am Belgian in origin, transplanted by attachment to she who 'complements
me' (thanks Sid). I was lucky enough to have really sweet parents who
let me study whatever I wanted, for as long as I wanted - given that every
year was completed successfully. Which I gratefully and chaotically
did. I got a Masters in Germaninc Philology and immediately realized
that it was completely useless to me unless at some point in time I would
want to date an incredibly good looking and intelligent American woman.
So I did the only logical thing possible, I got me a Masters in Animation.
In '95 I started working as a freelance object/stop motion/classical animator,
and in '97 I started playing with CG. And I fell head over heels
with this incredibly good looking and intelligent American woman.
She liked me enough to accept my excuse for a wedding ring - and we escaped
the lowlands, wet weatherwise, but dry professionally, and came to the
US set on conquering the world. We're
still working on that part.
I
love animation. Sometimes I forget when stress and crunch time take
over, but dangit, I really do. It is so much fun to bring characters
or objects to life, and entertain in the process. I can't really
imagine anything more satisfying than seeing children and people in general
be enchanted by a story and accompanying, timeless images. There
truly is a magical element to good film and TV. More so than to
literature or visual art alone. And those are awesome already.
The only thing that comes close are (some) comics, and of course Belgian
chocolates.
I
consider myself very lucky. Life is good.
Thanks. |
